Samsung Galaxy S23: Release date, Price, Peatures, Specifications and Preview

Samsung Galaxy S23 preview
- Samsung’s upcoming large flagship device
- When is it released? 17 February 2023
- What is the price? starting at $799.99, £849, or AU$1,349
The Samsung Galaxy S23 is the first major smartphone to be released in 2023. Given that it was unveiled on February 1 together with the Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra, it shouldn’t be a surprise that it’s among the best devices. You can buy it this year.
The entry-level Galaxy S23 from Samsung isn’t a major advance over the Galaxy S22, but it is a strong rival to similarly priced devices like the iPhone 14 and Google Pixel 7 Pro thanks to a small design update and one very substantial internal enhancement.
The Galaxy S23 and its larger sister, the S23 Plus, both ditch the raised metal contour of the S22 in favor of individual camera lenses in the S22 Ultra style, despite the fact that the phone is roughly the same size and weight as its predecessor.
Samsung decided not to carry over the S22 Ultra’s amazing camera setup and 108MP sensor to the S23. As a result, the S23 still has a 50MP wide lens, 12MP ultrawide lens, and 10MP optically stabilized 3x optical zoom camera. Although the front camera only has 12MP, it is still an improvement over the S22’s 10MP selfie camera.
This phone’s biggest enhancement is the strong Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, which is the key selling point of the Galaxy S23 and its larger siblings.
We’ve compiled information on the Samsung Galaxy S23’s price, specifications, design, display, and more in the below sections.
Samsung Galaxy S23: Availability And Price
At its Galaxy Unpacked event on February 1, Samsung revealed the Samsung Galaxy S23 alongside the Galaxy S23 Plus and Galaxy S23 Ultra. The phone may be ordered now and will arrive on February 17.
The 128GB and 256GB storage options for the Galaxy S23 are available and cost $79.99/£849/AU$1,349 and $859.99/£899/AU$1,449, respectively. The 256GB and 512GB storage models of the bigger Galaxy S23 Plus are available and cost $999.99, £1,049, or AU$1,649 and $1,119.99, £1,149, or AU$1,849, respectively.

- Pre-orders accepted now with delivery on 17 February
Samsung Galaxy S23: Design
With the exception of the raised metal island that encircled the Galaxy S22’s camera array, the Samsung Galaxy S23’s design is nearly identical to that of the Galaxy S22.
The Samsung Galaxy S23’s three rear cameras are floating on the upper left side of its 6.1-inch brushed Gorilla Glass Victus 2 back.
The Galaxy S23 measures 5.8 x 2.8 x 0.3 inches and weighs 168g, making it essentially the same size and weight as its predecessor (it’s also nearly identical in size to the iPhone 14 Pro). However, the power and volume buttons,
which for the first time are made from recycled materials, are a little lower on the device. A real SIM slot, mic holes, a speaker grill, and a USB-C port are all located on the phone’s bottom.
The S23 Plus is larger at 6.2 x 3 x 0.3 inches but adheres to the same design principles as its smaller sister. Naturally, it also weighs a little bit more (1.3 ounces more, to be exact).
Phantom Black, Green, Lavender, and Cream are the four color options for the Samsung Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus. But, Samsung will also make several unique hues available through Samsung.com, such as Red.
The entire Samsung Galaxy S23 line is IP68 rated, which means the standard S23 is resistant to water drops and dust, as we’ve come to expect from high-end smartphones nowadays.

Samsung Galaxy S23: Display
- Identical 6.1-inch AMOLED screen to the Galaxy S22’s
The 6.1-inch, 120Hz AMOLED (2340 x 1080 pixels), 6.1-inch Samsung Galaxy S23 shares the same screen as the Galaxy S22. The S23 Plus and S23 Ultra, their larger siblings, have screens that are 6.6 inches and 6.8 inches in size, respectively. The latter screen has a resolution of 3088 x 1440 pixels.
As previously mentioned, the display of the Samsung Galaxy S23 is protected by glossy Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which should offer a respectable level of defense against common dings and scratches.
Samsung Galaxy S23: Cameras
- Minimal changes from the Samsung S22 setup
A 50MP wide-angle lens with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 10MP telephoto lens with OIS and 3x optical zoom are all included in the Samsung Galaxy S23’s rear camera configuration. The phone’s front features a 12MP selfie camera that supports up to 4K video capture.
Compared to the Samsung Galaxy S22, night photography has improved, and the phone’s Expert Raw mode now offers 50MP stills (where as the S22 only handled RAW imagery at up to 12MP resolution).
All of the aforementioned are shared by the S23 Plus and its younger sibling.
Samsung Galaxy S23: Performance
- Custom Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor
The Galaxy S23’s powerful internals may be its best selling point despite pretty basic updates throughout the rest of the phone.
The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Mobile Platform for Galaxy, a customized variation of the common mobile CPU clocked at 3.36GHz, powers all three Galaxy S23 versions. Theoretically, the S23 (and S23 Plus) can match the power of Apple’s most powerful iPhones (with their A16 Bionic chips), but we haven’t yet had a chance to thoroughly assess the device.
However, none of the S23 lineup’s smartphones enable satellite connectivity, which is surprising given that the S23 and S23 Plus both couple the specialized Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 CPU with the X70 5G modem, which allows satellite communication.
As previously reported, the Galaxy S23 is available in two storage sizes—128GB and 256GB—and both have 8GB of RAM. The S23 is available in 256GB and 512GB capacities, both with 8GB of RAM.

 Samsung Galaxy S23: Battery
The battery capacity of the Samsung Galaxy S23 is 3,900mAh, 200mAh more than that of the Galaxy S22.
You can charge other Galaxy gadgets (like the Samsung Galaxy Buds 2 Pro) from the back of the phone thanks to its support for Super Fast wired charging (25W), rapid wireless charging, and wireless PowerShare.
Due to its better size, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus has a slightly larger 4,700 mAh battery and more potential wired charging (45W).
- 3,900mAh S23 battery
- 4,700 mAh S23 Plus battery
Samsung Galaxy S23: Software
- Samsung One UI 5.1 on top of Android 13
- Software features are still a major concern.
Each Samsung Galaxy S23 phone comes pre-installed with Android 13 “Tiramisu” with Samsung’s One UI 5.1. If you’re a person who likes to cling to your phones, you won’t need to think about replacing the S23 for a good while because Samsung has promised four generations of OS upgrades and five years of security improvements for its new devices.
With the Galaxy S23 series, Samsung has also added a few fresh software features, such as improved Samsung Notes (co-create features), the capacity to co-watch in Google Meet, and improved security measures (for instance, you can put the phone in Maintenance Mode so all your data is protected while someone works on it).
